Joshua Coase’s Tracks Of The Week
Calvin Harris – One Kiss (feat. Dua Lipa)
From what I’ve read this was a somewhat unexpected but welcomed collaboration between two artists who have very much become household names in the pop industry.
Granted, Calvin Harrishas been killing it for over a decade now with pop anthem after pop anthem and One Kissis another example of his producing skills and diversity.
This track feels a little different to previous releases, with deep house vibes and Dua Lipa’svocals work surprisingly well!
This is her first song she has featured on in over a year following the huge success of her self-titled debut album and of course, her smash hit New Rules(check out Initial Talk’sremix, it’s even better than the original, trust me!).
Friendly Fires – Love Like Waves
If like me you saw the name Friendly Firesand thought: “Oh I remember them”, then that is the correct response, as believe it or not, this is their first new track since 2011!
The last original material the band released was their second album Palaand the St. Albans trio were certainly proving to be a big hit in the indie music scene at the time.
You may remember their hit single Jump In The Pooland I would definitely say that this track is on par and very addictive to listen to!
Love Like Wavesis a psychedelic anthem with an incredibly catchy chorus and instrumental section, perfect for the summer.
Endless Peaks – Tempest
Endless Peaks were established in 2015 by brothers Luis Allen(Bass Guitar) and LloydAllen(Vocals/Lead Guitar), who teamed up with Channelle Smith(Drums) and ConnorDean(Keyboard).
Channelle and Connor were both recruited through the website ‘Join my band’.
Their most popular single Openhas featured on various radio platforms including the prestigious BBC Introducing.
The band’s psychedelic indie sound, has been likened to other bands such as Foals and Tame Impala but, yet they still obtain their uniqueness with this new track Tempest.
JONES – Tender
Cherie JonesAKA JONESis a London-born alternative pop singer and songwriter.
She arrived on the music scene in 2015, with her debut single Indulge, and following a lauded performance on Later…With Jools Holland her debut album, New Skin, was released on 7thOctober 2016.
Tenderis a soft, pleasant R&B record and her new EP titled London features a variety of easy listening acoustic tracks.
JADA – Sure
Emilie Mølsted, AKA JADAis an up and coming singer/producer from Denmark who has already achieved acclaimed success in her home country.
JADA now has ambitions for success on a global scale and Sureis a fine follow up to her wonderful debut single Keep Cool.
Her vocals don’t explode in this track, they are in fact very soft and refined but that adds to the charm of this track.
Relax and unwind and let Emilie’s sweet voice carry you away.
Chrome Sparks – O, My Perfection
Chrome Sparksis the solo project of Jeremy Malvinfrom Brooklyn, USA.
Jeremy has a classical music background and combines this with his love for synthesisers to create tracks which range from dance hits to down-tempo, chilled electronica.
Chrome Sparks self-titled debut album features tracks in both these styles and the 10 track LP takes you on a futuristic musical journey.
Shallou – Vignette
Joe Boston, AKA Shallou has undoubtedly been one of my favourite artist discoveries since starting this show.
Originally from Rockville, Maryland, Shallou moved to Chicago where he began making electronic music in his bedroom, a place where many artists often start their careers in the digital age thanks to YouTube and SoundCloud.
He already has nearly 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify, producing music which is fundamentally electronic, but with certain indie and ambient house elements which blend perfectly with soulful vocals.
The producer first caught my eye with his track You and Me, which I featured on this show back in November and you should definitely check that out, as well as his two most recent singles Lieand Find.
Vignetteis a track taken from his upcoming EP Souls, which is set for release on 27thApril and I cannot wait to hear it!
Ólafur Arnalds – re:member
It’s been a while since I’ve played an instrumental track on the show and seems fitting to feature one on Nerve FM with a wonderful musical journey composed by Ólafur Arnalds.
Ólafur is a BAFTA-winning multi-instrumentalist from Iceland who sweetly mixes piano and strings with electronic loops and beats.
The 31-year-old released his debut album Eulogy for Evolutionback in 2007 and his latest work was an album called Island Songs.
Released in 2016, Ólafur spent seven weeks traveling to seven different places in Iceland, collaborating with seven different artists.
The single Particleswas the first classical track to ever feature on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio.
re:memberis a wonderful classic/contemporary instrumental and it may be a slow-burner, but really kicks into life in the closing two minutes.
Joshua Coase’s Album Of The Week
Tom Misch – Geography
Tom Mischis a 21-year-old singer/songwriter/producer from just outside Peckham, South East London.
Tom started out making music three years ago, uploading tracks to Soundcloud, which were mainly 90s hip-hop beats.
His music style quickly progressed when he discovered a love for jazz and drew upon inspiration from artists such as J Dilla, Robert Glasper, Bill Evans and Christian Scott.
I’ve been anticipating his debut album for many months now and Geographydoes not disappoint!
Stand-out track which have previously featured on the show includeIt Runs Through Me, featuring American hip hop trio De La Soul, the smooth, highly emotive Movieand the funky, irresistible track Water Baby.
Geographyis a fusion of electronic and live music, with tracks such as Disco Yesfeaturing Poppy Ajudhaand Lost In Parisbeing a couple more of my favourites to groove to!
