I graduated from Bournemouth University with a first class honours degree in Multimedia Journalism in the summer of 2018. I have experience in many areas of journalism, particularly specialising in music, radio and sports journalism.

I am currently seeking full-time employment in music journalism/the music industry and am open to all offers and willing to relocate to wherever the job may be, in the UK or international.

In February 2018 I joined the Majestic Casual team as a Freelance Editor as they prepared to launch their brand new website – https://www.majesticjournal.com. Majestic Casual is a major music organisation based in Berlin, Germany, with over 4 million subscribers on its YouTube channel and its own record label. I have written several feature articles including ‘Artificial Beats’ and ‘When Older Is (Sometimes) Better’. I have also interviewed several prominent artists including SG Lewis, Jarreau Vandal and Catching Flies.

In January 2018 I released a 15-minute radio documentary titled ‘Bitter Sweet A.I. Symphony’. This documentary investigated the impact that Artificial Intelligence is currently having on the music industry for my final university project, achieving a First, with the project being awarded a grade of 80%. I impressed my tutors, securing high-profile interviews with CEO’s and staff from AI music-startup companies including Amper Music and Jukedeck, industry experts and musicians using the software. This included Taryn Southern, who in October 2018 released the world’s first album to be entirely composed and produced with AI, titled ‘I Am AI’. In March 2018 the documentary was commissioned and broadcasted by London-based radio station Resonance FM.

My love and desire to pursue music journalism as a career path largely stemmed from my three years working as a presenter/DJ at Nerve Radio. Nerve is Bournemouth University’s student union run media organisation comprising of radio, TV, magazine, news and sport departments. I held several positions at the station while at university, working as Head of News Online from January 2016-May 2017, Head of Sport from June 2017-May 2018 and the founder/presenter of the ‘New Music Monday’ (NMM) show. This music show ran from September 2017-April 2018 and quickly became one of the station’s flagship shows, with a focus on playing new releases from up and coming artists not normally heard on radio. I interviewed emerging talent from across the world including Caitlyn Scarlett, Evelinn Trouble and Lila Vargen.

Much of my journalistic experience is in the sports sector. I have interned at AFC Bournemouth and worked as an accredited journalist at the Aegon Open Nottingham tennis tournament both at the ATP 250 event in 2016 and WTA International event in 2017 on behalf of UBI Tennis and VAVEL USA. I have had the chance to interview some top footballers and tennis players including Eddie Howe, Asmir Begovic, Steve Cook, Johanna Konta, Kyle Edmund, Dan Evans, Kevin Anderson, Heather Watson and many more.

“During his time with us Joshua carried out a whole host of duties in the newsroom. These ranged from researching, writing, editing, recording and voicing material for our peak time news bulletin.

“Joshua is one of best students to have had a placement with us, such was his ability he was able to run the breakfast shift single handedly. His editing, writing and broadcast skills were second to none, an absolute credit to Bournemouth University. A long and successful career awaits.”

“Josh’s radio show, ‘New Music Monday’ is clearly a show with a lot of research and music passion involved! Very impressed by his playlist, access to artists and creativity around features. In terms of content, brilliant confidence in feature creation, artist interviews and multi media content for social media. Fantastic to see that he’s cultivating artist interaction online.”

“There’s a real sense of knowledge and passion for music; and the frequent guests, interviews and listener inputs on air coupled with the social media / online articles mean the show feels both accessible and inclusive. There are some really nice insights into music with the musician interviews. On the whole, this is a well put together show!”
