AFC Bournemouth are set to sign Jermain Defoe on a free transfer from Sunderland following the striker’s contract talks with the club.

The England international has agreed a three-year deal worth £65,000-a-week and will return to the club where he spent a successful six-month loan spell in 2000/01.

AFC Bournemouth 2-1 Burnley: Cherries end home campaign with hard fought win

AFC Bournemouth marked the final home game of the Premier League season with the perfect result, seeing off Burnley 2-1 to reach 45 points, surpassing their total tally from last season.

After a slow start to the game with few chances Junior Stanislas gave the home side the lead after 25 minutes, taking them to the half time break in control. Eddie Howe’s side continued to press for a crucial second goal throughout the second period, but a well crafted equaliser converted by Sam Vokes threatened to put a dampener on the day. Josh King delighted the home crowd and granted them their wish of a final home game victory just two minutes after being pegged back, slotting home to secure a first win over Burnley since 1998.

AFC Bournemouth 4-0 Middlesbrough: Cherries march past Middlesbrough to move closer to safety

AFC Bournemouth eased any remaining relegation concerns after they produced a dominant performance to ease past a struggling Middlesbrough side 4-0 at The Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries were on top from the first whistle to last, with Josh King giving the home side the perfect start, opening the scoring after less than two minutes. Benik Afobe doubled the home side’s lead and a red card for Middlesbrough’s Gaston Ramirez left Steve Agnew’s side in real trouble. It was more of the same in the second half and man of the match Marc Pugh scored the all important third goal before a wonderful strike from Charlie Daniels put the icing on the cake for Eddie Howe’s side.

AFC Bournemouth 1-3 Chelsea: League leaders see off spirited Cherries

League leaders Chelsea restored their advantage at the top of the Premier League to seven points after overcoming AFC Bournemouth 3-1 at The Vitality Stadium to end the Cherries five match unbeaten run.

Two goals in the space of three minutes, including an Adam Smith own goal and strike from Eden Hazard put the visitors in firm control with just 20 minutes played. The Cherries remained defiant and bounced back as Benik Afobe hit the post before Josh King’s deflected strike pulled one back for the hosts just before the break. Both sides had their chances in the second half, but a stunning free kick from Marcos Alonso at the midway point of the half settled the match and secured a precious three points for Antonio Conte’s side in their title pursuit.

AFC Bournemouth 3-2 West Ham United: Cherries battle to earn first win in 2017

A Josh King hat trick secured a vital win for AFC Bournemouth as they edged past West Ham United 3-2 at The Vitality Stadium despite missing two first half penalties.

Both the Norwegian striker and Benik Afobe missed from the spot and the home side suffered as West Ham equalised with less than 10 minutes to go. However, King stepped up just before stoppage time to tap in, making that eight goals in his last seven Premier League games to help secure a crucial three points and a first win in the New Year for Bournemouth.
